Day School Director


I consider myself a life long learner and have a passion for working with young children. I have over 16 years’ experience in the field of Early Childhood.  I hold a Bachelor's of Science in Early Childhood as well as a Master's Degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Early Childhood.   For over ten years I was the Assistant Director of a non-profit organization that served a nine county region working with day care providers through a grant funded by Alabama Department of Human Resources. I became the Day School Director in August of 2012.   I live in Muscle Shoals with my husband Lewis and our one-year-old son William.  I am an active member at Highland Park Church of Christ and have served on the board for our local United Cerebral Palsy Center for over ten years.

Born and raised in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia, I attended the Savannah College of Art and Design, where I received a BFA in photography. I first moved to Florence in 2004, where I joined First United Methodist Church and had my twin babies baptized. In 2007 the Army moved our family to Wonju, South Korea. While in Korea I taught English in the elementary schools. Upon our return I began teaching in the 2-year-old classroom in the Day School. Since 2012 I have served as the Assistant Director to the Day School. I thoroughly enjoy my job and love coming to work each day, watching the wonders of our Creator’s beautiful world unfold to a child. In my free time I enjoy being with my own 7-year-olds, Ella and Sterling and our little Shih Tzu pup (from Korea, Young Do). We may not be from Florence originally, but we certainly consider it home!

Staff Qualifications

Qualifications for a staff position shall include demonstrated competence and skill for the specific position to be filled. First consideration is given to individuals with college degrees in early childhood education. A lead teacher must be at least twenty-one years of age, have a high school diploma (or GED) and one of the following; Bachelors of Science in Education, Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, or at least five years experience working in an early childhood educational program as a lead teacher, associate teacher, or director.  The director must have be at least twenty-one years of age and a degree in Early Childhood Education.  Preference is given to applicants who also have previous experience as a director of a pre-school or child development center and/or office administration.

An associate teacher must be at least twenty-one years of age and have a high school diploma or a GED. All other staff members, to include Early Bird staff, Stay and Play staff, and assistant to the director are required to be at least nineteen years of age and have a high school diploma or GED.  Substitute teachers must be at least twenty-one years of age and have a high school diploma or a GED.

The following things will also be required of any employee of The First United Methodist Church of Florence Day School and these things shall be maintained in the employee’s file:

  • Alabama Criminal History Background Check through the Department of Human Resources
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Clearance
  • A copy of the employment application/resume
  • Medical history report
  • Three references contacted by the director
  • CPR Training verification
  • Written verification of training and/or degrees earned
