Mission Work at Home

The FUMC Shepherd’s Table provides meals and a message to the underserved in the local community every Sunday at 11:30am. One of six teams of 15 volunteers setup, cook, serve, visit and witness to our guests each week.

UNA Wesley Foundation is a campus ministry located in the heart of the UNA Campus.  It is a ministry supported by the Northwest Alabama District of the United Methodist Church.  First United Methodist supports this ministry with money from our budget and different classes provides meals for students twice per month.  Students are invited to eat free at FUMC on Wednesday evening at the fellowship meal.

Girls Group Home (Knobe Scholarship Program) in Florence is part of the United Methodist Children’s Home organization. FUMC provides support for the group home with maintenance projects and staffing assistance. If you’re handy around the house with upkeep, repair or building projects, this could be just the ministry for you.

During Christmas time, FUMC sends 150 Christmas gift packages to children in Honduras. Donors and volunteers from the congregation purchase food, prepare and serve thousands of free meals. Over 600 such meals were delivered to Meals on Wheels and hospice patients while almost 3,000 meals were served to local people in need. A similar number were served in the same areas during the Thanksgiving holiday period.

The congregation of FUMC support a variety of local and regional youth and adult projects, including Good Sams, The Brandon Center and Camp Sumatanga that we help with volunteers and money for the Help Center, a community center providing food, clothing, help with electricity rents, prescriptions  and many other needs.
