Calling All Artists!

The Christian season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday on March 2, 2022.  In preparation for a new Lenten sermon series that runs through Easter, Sunday, April 17, 2022, we are soliciting visual artwork from our church and community members.  The theme is “Faces of Jesus,” and our intent is for artists to select one or more Lent/Easter scriptures (we’ll provide a list) that inspire your interpretation of the face of Jesus.  You may submit more than one.  You may use any media that inspires you.

As you work, keep in mind some of the pieces may be on display in the sanctuary for Sunday morning worship services, so consider sizing your work to show well.  The preachers will select from the works of art we receive to use as inspiration and illustration for our sermons.

When you submit your artwork, please include a description of the media and scripture passages you used.  Offer reflections on the reason you chose to depict the face of Jesus the way you did. Submit a high-resolution image of your artwork for presentation on the live stream.  We will also include the picture in a program guide, along with your written reflection, for an art show.

We will exhibit all submissions at an art show beginning on Good Friday, April 15, 2022, at 10 am in McDowell Hall.  The show will run through Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 1:00 pm.  You may price your work for sale so long as it remains on display through Sunday morning.  The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2022.  Let us know as soon as possible if you plan to show a piece, and reach out to Ann Cohen (annhillcohen@gmail.com) with any questions.
